Bhubaneswar: In an effort to improve basic amenities and health care in the Capital Hospital here, the health department decided to promote the chief medical officer (CMO) to the director post.  The director will focus on the improvement of patient care and infrastructural development of the hospital.

This was decided at a high level meeting chaired by health minister Damodar Rout on Tuesday.

The health care units in and around the state capital which were earlier regulated by the Capital Hospital CMO will now be controlled by chief district medical officer (CDMO), Khurda. To lessen burden of CDMO, a new additional district medical officer (ADMO) post will be created.

Similarly, the CMO of Ispat General Hospital (IGH) in Rourkela will henceforth look into the improvement of health care facilities of IGH only. It was also decided in the meeting that a new post would be created in Rourkela under Sundergarh CDMO to share responsibilities of the health official.
