Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has demanded sufficient central funds for the construction of 50,000 anganwadi centres (AWCs) in the state.  In a letter to the Union Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath, Patnaik said that out of nearly 71000 AWCs in the state, only about 20000 have own buildings.

Naveen said, “I`m at a loss to understand why ICDS universalisation has taken place without provisioning for buildings.”

It may be noted that on July 9, as many as seven kids lost their lives due to an AWC wall collapse at Suansia village in Ranpur area of Nayagarh district.
