Bhubaneswar: Labourers working on Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperatives (IFFCO) railway siding near Bauriapalanda in Paradip had a close shave today as a train engine hit a rail wagon creating panic among the eye-witnesses.

According to sources, hundreds of labourers were uploading fertiliser bags into a goods train at IFFCO railway siding when a train engine coming from the port hit the stationary rail wagon. Due to the hit, the rail wagon moved about 40 feet from the spot triggering panic among the workers on site.

While some of them fell off the wagon some others also got hit receiving injuries due to the accident. The injured were later admitted to the nearby Biju Memorial Hospital where most of them were discharged after preliminary treatment.

Blaming mismanagement by railway authorities as the reason for the accident, labourers launched a protest near the siding. They said that the engine entered the wrong track due to signal error by the authorities and consequently hit the wagon.

After being informed, railway police reached the spot and launched an inspection.
