Bhubaneswar: A minor girl from Odisha's Sundergarh district, who was missing for last two years, was recently rescued from a railway station in Delhi.
According to sources, the minor girl was rescued by Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel from Nizamuddin railway station in Delhi on September 4.
Later, the GRP personnel reportedly handed over the girl to the child welfare committee (CWC) from where she was subsequently lodged at a local shelter home.
Notably, the minor girl hailing from Katingdihi village under Sadar police limits in Sundergarh district was missing since August, 2017. It was alleged that a pimp had sold her off in Delhi. However, after two years, the girl managed to escape from the captivity recently and reached Nizamuddin railway station where she was rescued by the GRP.
The family members of the minor girl have approached the Sadar police and district collector seeking help in this connection.
Meanwhile, the collector has directed the District Child Protection Officer to initiate steps to bring her back.
"The DCPO has been asked to immediately contact the Delhi CWC. The District Social Welfare Officer will also be there to make close coordination with them. Whatever is required to bring back the girl to Odisha and reunite her with her family will be done accordingly. I will also personally follow up the case and ensure that it is done as soon as possible," Sundargarh Collector Nikhil Pawan Kalyan said.
