Bhubaneswar: Throwing a challenge to the commissionerate police, the miscreants looted cash worth Rs 2 lakh from a local trader and gold ornaments from two women in the busy thoroughfares of the capital city this afternoon.

The incidents took place at Rajmahal Square and Governor’s House Square.

In the first incident, two miscreants came in a Pulsar bike and snatched the cash bag from Alok Kumar Ghadei, a local trader in front of Rajmahal Hotel.

“I was on the way to the deposit Rs 2.10 lakh in the Finance office after withdrawing the cash from the State Bank of India when two youths following me in a Pulsar bike, called me and said something has fallen on the ground. As soon as I looked behind, they came to my left and snatched the cash bag,” Ghadei said.

In another incident, Shantilata Acharya, a lady employee of the Home department, was on the way to her home with one of her staff when two miscreants came in a Pulsar bike and snatched a gold chain from her neck a few metres from the Governor’s Square and sped away.

“I could not note down the number of the bike as they sped away. One of the miscreant sitting on the back was wearing a blue T-shirt and the other driving the bike was wearing a black T-shirt. Both of them were wearing helmets,” she said.

In another incident, another woman, identifying as the sister of an Ollywood actress, said two miscreants snatched her gold chain while she was on the way to her home in a Scooty.

Talking to OTV over phone, Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said the police is investigating into the case.

“We are trying to figure out whether the miscreants belong to any known gang in the city or outside the state. We have examined the complainants and the eyewitnesses. We have also got the CCTV footage and hope that the miscreants would be nabbed very soon,” he added.
