Dhenkanal: Tension prevailed at Khamar village under Sadar police limits in Dhenkanal district after unidentified miscreants hurled bombs and attacked two villagers with sharp weapons this morning following a dispute over construction of Rengali Left Bank Canal.

The injured identified as Shankarsan Sahoo and Kalindi Barik are undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.

As per sources, the villagers had halted construction of Canal a few days back alleging poor quality work. It is suspected the attack was a fallout of the protest.

"At around 6 am, Shankarsan Sahoo of Khamar village was on his way to a cashew nut farm while Kalindi Barik was present at the village square when five to six miscreants came on three bikes and attacked them with sharp weapons. Injured Sahoo and Barik were immediately rushed to a government hospital in an ambulance," said IIC of Sadar police station, Malaya Kishore Nayak.

Nayak further said, "Earlier on May 18, Shankarsan's son Srikant had attacked two persons including the JE engaged in the construction work of the Rengali Left Bank Canal and one Tutu of Baji Chhak in Dhenkanal town. It is alleged that some youths of Baji Chhak and its nearby areas are behind the attack."

Meanwhile, two separate teams of Sadar and Town police stations are conducting raids at various places. The accused will be nabbed by this evening, he added.
