Bhubaneswar: The state seems to be turning out to be a favourite destination for traffickers with woman and girl child being the highest in number as victims.

In one such case, police have apprehended two touts from Bhubaneswar railway station for allegedly trafficking a teen to Jhansi. The accused have been identified as Moolchand and his father-in-law Kedar Pradhan.

The incident came to the fore when the 14-year-old girl from Nayagarh refused to accompany them to Jhansi and raised an alarm thereby inviting the police to intervene into the matter.

It has been alleged that Moolchand was trying to take the girl to his village Mahua in Hamidpur district in Uttar Pradesh where Moolchand’s brother was supposed to marry the girl.

Recently, a woman had escaped a group of traffickers in Jhansi after she was allegedly sold to them by her husband.

With the rise in the number in trafficking of woman and girl child in the state, the situation has turned grim calling for strict provisions to curb the menace.
