Cuttack: Matriculation examinations in the state would begin from February 20 and the last date for filling up of application forms for the examinations is fixed on December 24. State Board of Secondary Education (BSE) president Dr D P Nanda on Thursday said the examination committee of the board has decided to complete the matriculation examination in February itself and publish the results by the end of April.

The committee has also decided that the examinations this year would be held under a new format in which the examinees would be provided with a question-cum-answer sheet. "The students would write their answers in the space provided in the question paper itself and submit the entire booklet," Nanda said adding that the students would not be allowed to take the questions back.

"Instead, they can download the questions from the board website, which would be posted after the examinations are over," he informed.

The examinations are being preponed to allow the state students to be at par with other Boards of the country and by declaring the results early, the successful students would be eligible to apply for higher studies in other national institutes, the BSE president said.

Early completion of Annual examinations would also pave way for early completion of supplementary examinations so that the successful students would not lose a year for higher education, he said.

Nanda also made it clear that introduction of question-cum-answer sheet would help a great deal to put a check on the unsavory incidences of question leak or theft, as was witnessed in this year's examination.
