Bastar(Chhattisgarh)/Malkangiri: A total of 56 Maoists, including 17 from Malkangiri area, surrendered before Bastar SP RN Das in Chhattisgarh on Friday.

Sources said the red rebels, who relinquished their arms, told police that they had decided to quit the Maoist camp because they were dissatisfied with the activities of members of the outlawed CPI(Maoists).

In a related development, 19 Maoist sympathisers surrendered before Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra at the district headquarters today.

Meanwhile, a woman cadre Maoist Sushanti alias Muli Munda laid arms before the Bonai Additional SP.

Sushanti, who was active in the Jharkhand division of the CPI (Maoist) organization from 2010 to 2015, was carrying a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh on her head.

Talking to media persons, Sushanti said, “Due to my husband’s persuasion, I had joined the Maoist organization. After his death, I have come back to my house.”

Asked whether she would rejoin the Maoist ranks, Sushanti stated, “For the future of my child, I would never go back to the Maoist organisation.”
