Bhubaneswar: The Srikakulam-Koraput division of the CPI (Maoist) today called for Bharat bandh on 16th May protesting against Operation Green Hunt, combing operations and set up of National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC). In a letter issued to the media houses this morning they demanded the release political prisoners alleging the government has declared war against tribals in the name of green hunt.

In a separate incident, more than 500 members of Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangh (CMAS) encroached lands of non-tribal people in Bandhugaon of Koraput district. CMAS members ploughed around 32 acres of arable land by hosting red flags in Kumbhariput near Bandhugaon. CMAS members and sympathisers alleged that the non-tribal people had earlier encroached lands of the innocent tribals by offering them liquor and money.

Hundreds of tribals marched with traditional weapons and encroached around 20 acres and 12 acres of land in village Dhusuraguda and Tikarapada, respectively. Few days ago CMAS members had encroached 72 acres of land in village Dasini under Bandhugaon block.
