Man survives crocodile attack in Kendrapara

Kendrapara: A man sustained critical injuries after a crocodile attacked him at Belpal village of Rajnagar in Kendrapara district on Friday night. The injured Kailash Chandra Sethi is now undergoing treatment at the hospital.

According to reports, the crocodile attacked Sethi when he had gone to Brahmani river at around 8 pm yesterday. The reptile reportedly tried to drag Sethi into the river after it caught hold of his right leg.

Sethi somehow managed to escape from the animal’s grip and raised an alarm. Following the incident, locals rushed to the spot and rescued him.

Local residents blamed lack of measures on part of local forest department officials for the rise in crocodile attacks in the region. They allege that crocodiles from Bhitarkanika sanctury are straying into several water-bodies at regular intervals.

As no step is being taken by the forest department to maintain a vigil, people are falling prey to crocodile attacks, residents alleged.
