Man held for raping woman

Jaipur: A man was arrested today for allegedly raping a 27-year-old woman in a hotel room on the pretext of discussing his marriage proposal to her, police said here.

Vijay, 30, was arrested last night from a hotel on Ajmer road when he was about to leave the city, they said.

According to the police, Vijay called the woman, who works as a nurse in Bharatpur, and proposed to marry her. He said he had seen her profile on a matrimonial website.

"When the woman arrived here on Thursday from Bharatpur, he took her to a hotel and raped her," SHO Sindhi Camp Mahendra Gupta said.

After the incident, the victim lodged an FIR against the accused who was arrested, Gupta said.

The accused, hailing from Barmer district, is being interrogated, he added.
