Jajpur: A man was arrested in Jajpur district today for allegedly lifting two wheelers and selling them in different places with forged documents, police said. Police also recovered nine stolen motor cycles from different areas and seized many forged documents from the arrested person, Raj Kishore Mohanty (48) of Bartanda village under Sukinda police limits.

According to the police, the thief operated in different parts of Jajpur and its neighbouring Keonjhar and Dhenkanal districts. Police managed to catch the thief during a routine check up. "During a routine checking we detained two motor cycle riders on Tuesday as their documents including Registration Certificate (RC) Books evoked suspicion. Because, now RC books are obsolete and smart cards are issued in lieu of traditional RC books. We then verified the RC books with the RTO in Keonjhar and found they are forged," said Kumar Chandra Nayak, officer-in-charge of Sukinda police station.

During interrogation, the two wheeler riders told police that they had purchased them from Raj Kishore Mohanty. Based on this, police today caught the accused and recovered seven more stolen motor cycles. According to his confession, he used to steal two wheelers and sell them in Jajpur and its neighbouring districts preparing forged documents. "We have arrested the main accused and detained another three persons. We are hopeful of more recovery and arrest in this connection," said the OIC.
