Jajpur: The man who was accused of branding his 5-year-old granddaughter with hot iron rod was arrested by Jajpur Road Police on Friday.

The accused grandfather has been booked under Section 341 and 326 of IPC.

"We have registered a case against the girl's grandfather Dillip Bindhani," Jajpur Road PS IIC Sisir Mishra said.

The girl is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital and according to police sources once the girl child recovers, she will be handed over to the child protection committee.

Meanwhile, a four-member team of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) have also visited the hospital to take stock of the victim's health condition.

"The doctors have not confirmed that the injury is on account of hot iron branding. However, there is a burn injury on the child. On the face of it, it seems like some one has deliberately branded the girl with a iron rod. We have a consultation with the doctor who revealed that the child is malnourished and as soon as a child specialist is available in the hospital, the victim will be examined. The doctor has prescribed a 2-week stay at the hospital and as soon as the child's condition improves we will take custody of the child," said Bidyutlata Das, chairperson, district child welfare committee.

The incident occurred in Padmapur village in Jajpur district where a five-year-old girl child was branded with hot iron on her face by her grandfather for not obeying him.

Though the matter happened four to five days back, the incident came to light after the neighbours of the kid noticed the injuries on her face and took her to the Jajpur hospital.
Notably, the girl child has been staying with her grandfather as her parents have divorced each other and staying separately. However, the kid was left with the grandfather.
