Nimapara: An alleged 'caustic remark' by the Nimapara MLA Samir Das during a water logging incident in the area has irked a group of locals who have urged Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to intervene in the matter and take action against the legislator.

The group under the banner " Nimapara-Gop Naba Nirman Parishad"  has also called for cancellation of Das' nomination for the ‘Gopabandhu Samman’ over his remark which has gone viral on social media.

As per allegations by locals, following heavy rains, there was water logging near Garapada on Nimapara-Pipili road on July 17 and the local youths cut a part of the road to allow the water drain out.  After Das reached the spot, a local youth asked him about plans for construction of drains to sort out the issue.

At this, the legislator lost his temper and spoke offensively, alleged members of the Parishad.

“I would like to draw the CM’s attention towards the MLA’s unpleasant remark. We strongly condemn his statement. If the CM does not take an action against the legislator, we will hit the streets,” said Dilip Nayak, chairman of Nimpara-Gop Nabanirman Parishad.

Refuting the charges, the Nimapara MLA said, “No such thing has happened. While one group wanted the drain work, a few others present there did not want it.”
