Malkangiri: Security personnel on Saturday seized 12 bottles of PETN (pentaerythritol tetranite), a liquid explosive material, and other items used in manufacturing explosives from a Maoist camp in Malkangiri district, police said.

Personnel of elite anti-Maoist force Special Operation Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Police (DVP) during a joint operation detected a Maoist camp inside Kathabaunsaguda forest under Mithili police station and found the explosives, Malkangiri SP Anirudha Singh said.

Pointing that recovery of the liquid explosive was the first of its kind in the state, he said no ultra was arrested from the camp, as they had abandoned it before the arrival of securitymen.

The items seized by police included 12 bottles of PETN, two drums used for manufacturing big landmines, battery charger, fuse wire, switch boards and some malaria kits, the SP said, adding that the ultras could have stored them at the camp to create a major violence.

The police raided the camp, a new one of the ultras, following a tip off.
