Bhubaneswar: The Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) on Friday asked the Nandankanan Zoo authorities to submit a report within a week after a man tried to commit suicide by entering a lion’s enclosure at the zoological park here.

The PCCF also asked the Nandankanan Zoo authorities to submit enclosure status report immediately, said sources.

“The man identified as Suryanarayan Das (45) from Chhatrapur in Ganjam district all of a sudden climbed on the wall and jumped into the lion enclosure (29-D) housing Cris (male lion) and Priyanka. We rescued Das within five minutes and rushed him to a hospital,” said the zoo’s assistant director K L Purohit here.

The incident took place at about 1.10 pm on Friday when security guards had gone for lunch, Purohit said.
