Bhubaneswar: After failing to get the heads of Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare minister Sanjay Dasburma and chit fund Commission head Justice MM Das, the BJP on Thursday turned its attention to Law minister Arun Sahu accusing him of helping promote the business of Ponzi firms.

The saffron party alleged that the scam-tainted firms flourished in the State under the patronage of the ruling party.

“Many BJD leaders attended the function of chit fund companies organised on 20 June, 2011. Why did they attend the programme? Is this not enough to prove that they promoted the companies in broad daylight?,” asked BJP vice-president Sameer Mohanty addressing a press meet here.

The BJP leader also raised questions on the award given to Sahu on the occasion. “Why was Sahu conferred with the award? Was he the Youth Icon of the chit fund firms?” he asked.

Mohanty threw an open challenge to Sahu asking whether the money spent on the programme was people’s hard-earned money?

Mentioning that senior BJD leader Surya Narayan Patro, the then MLAs Prabhat Tripathy, Sameer Das and Ramesh Chyau Patnaik attended the programme, he sought a reply from the minister what prompted them to attend such an event organized by the ‘cheaters’.

Mohanty has demanded that the minister must resign from his post on moral grounds.

Asked for his reactions, Sahu said he will reply at the right time.
