Labour dies, two taken ill after mishap in JICA project tunnel

Cuttack: Police today arrested a contractor following death of a labourer at the project site of the ongoing Japan International Cooperation Agency’s (JICA) tunnel project near Mahidas Bazaar of the town. Two other labourers engaged at the worksite were left critical in the mishap.

The duo identified as Sangram Nayak and Rajesh Ishqu was initially rushed to the Cuttack City Hospital and later shifted to SCB.

The deceased Ujjwal Das hailed from the  Howrah area in West Bengal, informed sources.

Tension spread at the work site after the mysterious disappearance of Das's body. As per reports, the body was allegedly hidden by the contractor in order to escape arrest.

However police rushed to the spot and launched a search operation following which the body was recovered. The contractor was taken into custody after interrogation.
