Bhubaneswar: A kidney theft case was registered by family members of Prakash Chandra Jena, a native of Ramachandi in Puri district, with Infocity police station here against city-based private hospital KIMS.

As per the complaint, Jena was admitted to the private hospital for the fistula operation on February 23 and underwent the surgical procedure on February 25.

When Jena felt pain in left side of the stomach after the operation, his family members asked the concerned doctor about the issue.

The family members were told a kidney has been removed from Jena.

Meanwhile, Jena’s brother Pratap Jena alleged the kidney has been removed without informing the family members.

“We were not told anything about kidney operation before the surgical procedure,” Jena’s brother said.

However, in a written clarification, the private hospital authorities said for the treatment purposes and to save the life of the patient, the unusual shaped kidney was removed from Jena’s body. The operation was made after getting the required permission of the patient’s family members, the clarification added.
