Justice Patra put on ventilator
Bhubaneswar/Cuttack: Justice RK Patra, who is heading the Commission of Inquiry probing the multi-core chit fund scam in the state, has been placed on ventilator support at the SCB medical college and hospital in Cuttack, following complains of chest pain.
Medical sources said, the former chief justice of Sikkim High Court is diagnosed with pneumonia and respiratory problems.
“A team of doctors, comprising cardiology, medicine and anesthesia has been formed under Dr CBK Mohanty to monitor the case. We hope he will recover soon,” health minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak who visited justice Patra said.
His condition remains critical, sources added.
“Justice Patra is undergoing pressure agent treatment and is conscious at present. His vital signs are stable at the moment but condition is critical,” SCB emergency officer Bhubanananda Moharana said.
In November last, the Odisha government for the third time gave six months extension to the one-man Commission which was set up in July 2013 following a hue and cry as the chit fund companies vanished overnight after duping thousands of gullible investors.
Commission sources said a database of more than 5,30,000 investors out of some ten lakh affidavits received, has already been prepared to identify the genuine investors in various chit fund companies.
Meanwhile, the state government has begun digitisation of chit fund claim documents received by the Commission to expedite the refund of money to duped investors of Ponzi firms.
