Bhubaneswar: The special CJM court (CBI) today rejected the petition of Jharpada jail authorities seeking permission to shift chit fund company owner owner Ranjan Dash to Chodwar jail on health grounds.

The court asked the jail officials to keep the accused there and take him to Cuttack for treatment when required.

The Jharpada jail authorities had filed a petition to relocate Dash, owner of Swastik India Multi-State Cooperative Society, to Choudwar after his family members moved NHRC alleging poor treatment to him who is suffering from oral cancer.

Jharpada jail superintendent had stated that from Choudwar jail, a number of patients are undergoing treatment at the AHCRI who are being taken to the hospital quite regularly. If Dash is shifted to the Choudwar jail, it would be convenient for the authorities to provide him medical care, he had told the court.

As per doctor’s prescription, Dash needs regular medical attention. However, the jail authorities are not giving him medicines properly, family alleged.

Meanwhile, the court set aside the bail application of TV channel owner Manoj Dash who had applied for bail after CBI charge sheet. Manoj Das was arrested by CBI last year for his alleged complicity in the Artha Tatwa (AT) Group scam
