Jeypore: The body of the JCB operator, trapped inside the stone quarry near Bariput since May 31, was recovered after 14 days of rescue operation today. The deceased has been identified as Ghanashyam Guru.

Though the body of Guru, a resident of Deogarh, was first spotted on June 10, the rescue team was able to recover his body today. After conducting post-mortem at the spot in presence of a Magistrate, the body was sent to Deogarh.

An ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh from Chief Minister's Relief Fund and financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh from Red Cross was provided to Guru's family.

It is alleged that the Mahaprayana vehicle carrying the body was stopped midway by a representative of the concerned construction agency and was seen negotiating with the administrative officials regarding the compensation. The person negotiating reportedly fled after spotting media persons.

On the other hand, Koraput District Collector K Sudarshan Chakravarthy said no such negotiation come to their notice while a probe will be initiated after getting complaints.

Meanwhile, the rescue team is yet to trace whereabouts of another missing JCB operator Sanjay Dash.

"His body was recovered today and it was handed over to his father after completing all formalities. An ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh from Chief Minister's Relief Fund and Rs 1 lakh from Red Cross has been provided to the deceased labourer's family. We have started the operation to recover the second body," said Chakravarthy.
