Jaya Durga ‘Astadhatu’ idols, crown stolen from temple at Sakhigopal

Puri: Tension prevailed at Sakhigopal area in Puri after unidentified miscreants decamped with idols, gold crowns and other ornaments from Nuagaon temple late on Friday night.

As per sources, Jaya Durga ‘Astadhatu’ idols along with other antique idols of others deities have also been stolen from the temple.

The matter came to light after the priest found the locks of the temple broken in the morning and informed the temple’s managing committee. Later, a police complaint regarding the theft of idols was lodged.

“All valuable ornaments of the Goddess, idols of Nilakantha, Somanath, and Radha Krushna have been stolen,” informed the priest

On getting information, Satyabadi police rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation basing on the complaint filed by the managing committee of the temple.

“We have begun probe and launched a manhunt to trace the culprits. Very soon they will be nabbed,” said a police official.

Earlier on January 9, some unidentified miscreants had decamped with six ‘ashtadhatu’ idols of the Nrusinghanath temple at Rendhagad village under Brahmagiri block in Puri. They had also stolen three silver crowns, two gold crowns, silver ‘prava’ and a cash of nearly Rs 2 lakh.

Later, the idols were found dumped near a river close to the village but the ornaments and other valuables of the deities could not be traced.
