Bhubaneswar: The suspense surrounding the location where the permanent campus of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) is to be housed ended after the Central Site Selection Committee gave its green signal to the identified land near Gothapatna on the city outskirts. Though it was in the air for some time now, the Centre formally intimated the State government about its decision today.

The Gothapatna site boasts of not only industrial units in its periphery but also many reputed institutes nearby. IIIT, Birla Institute of Management and Technology, International Management Institute, Nalco’s I&D Centre and STPI are situated near the location. The location is 15 km from the city airport and connected with 100-ft road constructed by BDA.

Another site at Arugul, also on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, was in the race too. Earlier this month, the committee visited both the sites and held discussions with Odisha chief secretary, IDCO CMD and senior officials of Technical Education and Training department over the selection of site.

After the committee, comprising Amarjit Sinha, senior official from Union ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), and Saibal Chattopadhyay, director of IIM-Kolkata, visited the two proposed sites and examined the infrastructural facilities available for the top business school, they zeroed in on the Gothapatna site.
