Bhadrak: Tension ran high at Khandia Bazar village under Sadar Police Station limits in Bhadrak district on Wednesday morning after a group of irate villagers thrashed a woman and her children and tamales her house at Charampa Canal Road.

Following the incident, armed police force has been deployed in and around the village to ward off any untoward incident.

Talking to media persons, the victim Pravati Patnaik said three youths of Khandia Bazar village—Rajesh, Brahma and Litu— had an altercation with her a fortnight ago.

"Yesterday, Rajesh had kidnapped my daughter from my house. After I lodged a complaint against him at the Sadar Police Station, he released my daughter. The Sadar IIC had assured me to solve the case. Today, Rajesh, with his two associates and some villagers, came to my house and asked me why I had lodged an FIR against them. Later, they dragged me out of my house and severely thrashed me and my children and my family members and threw all my household articles out of my house and set these on fire. Before leaving the place, they threatened to kill me,” she said.

Asked about the incident, Sadar IIC Sudarshan Gangoi said the villagers had attacked the house of the woman alleging that she indulged in immoral acts.

“Police rushed to the spot following information and pacified the villagers. The situation is tense, but under control. We have deployed additional police force in the area in view of the law and order situation,” he informed.
