IOCL pipeline develops leakage near Rourkela

Rourkela: A pipeline of the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) developed leakage near Ramabahal under Rajgangpur police limits in Sundergarh district on Monday causing spillage of diesel in the adjacent agriculture fields. The pipeline was carrying diesel from Paradip refinery to Ranchi.

Although the exact reason for the leakage is not clear, it is being suspected that miscreants tried to break open the underground pipes to steal oil, police sources said.

According to reports, soon after the leakage was spotted locals rushed to the spot with utensils, buckets and other storing cans and started collecting the spilled diesel.

On being informed, police and fire tenders rushed to the spot to avoid any untoward incident due to leakage of the fuel.

The maintenance team and higher officials of the IOCL also reached the spot and initiated efforts to control the leakage.

“We immediately rushed to the spot and alerted the locals, who by then were busy collecting the spilled fuel. An investigation has been initiated to establish the reason behind the leakage,” informed Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Rajgangpur police station, Pradip Jena.
