Hundi proceeds stolen at Alarnath temple

Puri: Raising a big question mark on the safety preparedness of the police ahead of Rath Yatra, some miscreants broke the ‘hundi’ (donation box) of Alarnath temple here under Bramhagiri block and took away the proceeds yesterday.

According to reports, temple servitors had taken the hundi and kept inside the temple before departing last night. They, however, found it broken with no money inside this morning. It is believed that lakhs of rupees kept inside the hundi were stolen.

The police started investigation into the matter soon after the servitors and the local tehsildar filed a complaint in this connection.
