Bhubaneswar: Odisha High Court on Monday fined Aparajita Sarangi, Secretary School and Mass Education Department for contempt of court. While adjucating a petition filed by one Swarnalata Dei, the High Court imposed on the Secretary a fine of Rs 1000 for not abiding by the court’s order. Mrs. Sarangi would serve seven days’ jail term if she fails to obey the order.

Besides this, the court also pronounced the same punishment against Srikant Prusty, Director of Secondary Education and Brundaban Satapathy, Inspector of Schools, Cuttack Circle for contempt of the court.

Earlier the court had directed the trio to look into the issues raised by petitioner Swarnalata Dei.

The court had directed to clear the outstanding arrears towards salary and regularize the service records of the petitioner.

As per reports, there were discrepancies in the petitioner’s service records. According to the government’s records, Dei was appointed as a teacher in 1997. However, she was appointed and had been working in a non-aided school since 1992. After the school got government assistance Dei was transferred to some other school and her joining records were considered from 1997 onwards which prompted her move to the court.
