Cuttack: The Orissa High court on Monday directed the authorities of International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon) to refrain from any construction work of their proposed Jagannath temple at Puri.
In its interim order on a writ petition filed by Iskcon, the court also asked all the parties to present their side in this matter at the next hearing.
The religious body had challenged the judgment passed by a single judge bench of the High Court.
Challenging the order of Puri-Konark Development Authority's (PKDA) restraining it from going ahead with the work on its proposed Jagannath temple at Puri, Iskcon had approached the High Court seeking quashing of the PKDA order.
A single-judge bench of Justice Kumari Sanju Panda had on February 24 rejected the appeal of Iskcon and asked it to present its case before PKDA as per the latter's show-cause notice.
Earlier, Iskcon had moved the High Court following PKDA’s order to ‘stop work’ on the temple at Baliapanda and submit details of the project.
Iskcon, however,has clarified that Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra would not be worshipped at the proposed temple.
On February 10, chief minister Naveen Patnaik had ordered an administrative inquiry into the construction of the proposed Jagannath temple by Iskcon in Puri by the Revenue Divisional Commissioner (Central Division) and submit the inquiry report within 60 days.
