Bhubaneswar: The High Court on Thursday asked the nurses working under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) to sign fresh agreements with the state government to resume services. Hearing the nurses’ stir the HC said that only after the agreements the health workers can join services.

The HC who asked the contractual nurses working under the state government to join services without any delay said decision about their fresh contracts would be decided later. The High Court will hear next Wednesday.

Earlier today the state health department sought fresh agreements from the agitating nurses, who called off their 10-day stir Wednesday to resume their services. Since the nurses were absent from their respective work places for more than 10 days without any notice, they required to sign agreements with the government, according to health minister Prasanna Acharya.

“The government seeks a fresh agreement with the nurses and we’ll consider those,” Acharya said.

On the other hand, joining of the nurses took a different turn on Thursday after a clause in the agreement irked them. It was mentioned in the agreement that if the nurses go on strike in future, they would be dismissed from service. This led to face-off between the authorities and the nurses at all the three medical colleges in the state.
