Bhubaneswar: Despite the mercury falling to the freezing point, the city dwellers seem to be happy with it as they are enjoying the warmth of the woolen blankets available at the National Level Handloom Expo-2011 at Exhibition Ground here.

Handloom products of 14 states, including Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, are for display at over 88 stalls in the expo. People visiting the expo can opt for any handloom product such as sarees, dresses and carpets. The shoppers can also find the famous Sambalpuri pata and bomkai sarees in the expo.

Hence, buyers like Kalyani are overwhelmed when they find these handloom products together at one place at same point of time.

Since we can’t visit every other state to buy these products, we feel good when they are available so easily through such expos,” a buyer Kalyani Sahoo said.

Similarly, the handloom products not only of our state, also from other states have lured the shoppers as well.

“One can find different materials of different states here. The Lucknow stitch of Uttar Pradesh is not available anywhere outside in Bhubaneswar. But one can easily find it in this expo only,” a shopper Monali Sahoo said.

Besides this, the businessmen participating in the expo have done a good business so far, says Yash Juneja, a businessman from Haryana.

“Woolen materials were sold in large number due to the intense cold here. Whatever woolen product we had they were sold in a single day. The business that we have done so far is good. The organizers have organized the expo very well,” Juneja said.

The expo being organized by Textile and Handloom Department & Directorate of Textiles & Handloom, Government of Orissa will continue till 30th of this month.
