Bhubaneswar: Tension continued to prevail in Utkal University campus ‘Vani Vihar’ in Bhubaneswar after students took to streets today evening and blocked the roads at Vani Vihar Square disrupting traffic movement. Hundreds of vehicles were left stranded on both the lanes of National Highway at Vani Vihar.

The students were protesting the violent attacks inside the campus in which two students sustained injuries today. Student union leader Rajesh Swain said that protesting such violent and deadly attacks on students we have taken to the streets and demand immediate arrest of the culprits.

Meanwhile, the students police arrived at the spot and pacified the irate students. According the Police one person has been detained in connection.

We will maintain strict vigil in the area and the persons involved in injuring the students will soon be arrested, informed deputy commissioner of police Satyabrata Bhoi.

Notably, a clash between two student groups over admissions near Gopabandhu Hostel yesterday left five students injured. Yesterday also some irate students torched three bikes and ransacked eight others after clashes between students.

Following the incident, one platoon police force was deployed and security arrangements have been tightened inside the campus to avoid any untoward situation.
