Bhubaneswar:  Unhappy over the tardy process of the World-Bank funded expansion work of Chandbali-Anandpur and Khariar-Bhawanipatna roads, the state government has decided to re-tender the contracts, cancelling the earlier ones.

In 2009, Somdatta and ARSS construction companies had won a joint contract from the state government for the widening of 95-km long Chandbali-Anandpur road.  Ever after three years, the companies have only managed to complete 16% of the total work.

Similarly, the Rs 105 crore worth Khariar-Bhawanipatna road expansion contract won by Patel and ARSS companies in 2009 is only 30% complete.  The local people have expressed displeasure over the snail’s pace of the 68-km long road widening work. The World Bank has also corroborated the state government’s views on the progress of the work.

Though the companies have dragged the state government to court against its cancellation of the contracts, it is yet to present own side in court.
