Bhubaneswar: Encouraged over its record growth in the export performance, the state government today decided to set up specific projects which will boost both the export and micro small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). This was decided at a meeting chaired by Chief Secretary B K Patnaik here.

"We will stress on development Sector Specific Industrial Parks, Mega Food Parks, Incubation Centers and IT parks in different parts of the state," Patnaik said. The export performance of the state has reached a record growth during 2010-11 with export of different products worth above Rs 17,098 crore. While the amount of export in 2006-07 was around Rs 12,837 crore, it increased to Rs 14,644 crore in 2008-09.

The major exports from the state included mineral products, electronics products, metallurgical products, engineering, chemical and allied products, handloom and textile products, agriculture and forest produces, pharmaceutical products, handicrafts, gems and jewelleries and Service Providers.

Stating that a bunch of such projects have been identified by the state government in consultation with various professional organisations and consultancy agencies, a senior official said that the major proposals initiated by the government included Aluminium Park at Angul as a joint venture between IDCO (industrial development infrastructure corporation) and NALCO.

"This park will support a number of downstream industries using molten alumina which will be made available from smelter of NALCO. The Park is proposed to be developed over 400 acres of land," he said. Similarly, pre project activities have been taken up for putting up a dedicated Plastic Park at Paradip over an area of 150 acres where feedstock required for downstream industries will come from IOCL. One Incubation Center in IT has been proposed by IDCO in the notified SEZ (info-valley) area at Goudakashipur, Khurda over an area of 15000 sq.ft for MSME.

Other important projects identified are Integrated Textile Park with Testing Laboratory and Certification Center near Bhubnaeswar, Mega Food Park at Rayagada, Sector Specific SEZ at Paradip, IT Towers at Mancheswar, ITES Corporate Towers at Chandaka, Floriculture Export Center, Dry Spice Technology & Skill Development Center, Hardware and Electronics Park near Bhubaneswar.

Other projects include, Marine Food Processing Park near Bhadrak, two Fishing Harbours and Improvement of Infrastructure of existing Fish Landing Centers have also been proposed. Other special projects identified are World Trade Center at Bhubnaeswar and Special Investment Region in Dhamara Port area, the official said.

"All theses identified projects have ample scope for emergence of Micro Small & Medium Scale Industries and boosting up of the export products of the state, the chief secretary said. It has also been decided that a team of experts under the leadership of a special secretary rank officer will present these projects in Regional Meeting proposed to be convened by Govt of India for their inclusion in ASIDE (Assistance to States for Developing Export Infrastructure and Allied Activities) scheme.
