Bhubaneswar: The state government on Tuesday ordered an inquiry into reports of a District Inspector (DI) of schools being beaten up by a woman employee with broomstick in the office premises at Soro in Balasore district.

School and Mass Education Minister Pratap Jena told reporters here that the incident took place in the DI`s office at Soro in the presence of staff members yesterday and would be enquired into.

According to police, two FIRs have been lodged in the Soro police station in this regard, one by DI, Soro, Nirmal Pattnaik and another by Anita Nayak, working as data entry operator in the DI office.

Inspector-in-charge (IIC) Soro police station, Sujit Pradhan said Anita Nayak had alleged that Pattnaik misbehaved with her in the office and tore her sari when she demanded the money which she claimed to have given him on the promise of being made a permanent employee.

While Anita claims that the DI had taken bribe from her to make her a permanent employee and was now playing mischief, Pattnaik refuted the allegation as ``false and motivated``.

Unable to get her money back, the woman picked up two brooms and beat up the DI before others intervened, police said.?

Police arrested Anita and another Class IV employee in the same office, Chittaranjan Mohanty and forwarded them to court where their bail pleas were granted.
