Cuttack: She might be the brain behind her own brand of frozen food ‘Frozit’, but she is boiling with ideas when it comes to coming up with newer enterprising ventures. Rashmi Sahoo, the lady who has taken to business like a duck takes to water, has created her own identity by following in her father’s footsteps and taken the most sought after Ruchi brand legacy forward.

An inspiration to many aspiring entrepreneurs, Rashmi, who holds the key position of director in ‘Ruchi’ and ‘Frozit’, is the daughter of well known businessman Sarat Sahoo.  Her hardwork and dedication towards her venture has made ‘Frozit’ products achieve success in the State.

Speaking to odishatv.in, Rashmi said, “My father is also my mentor. I learn from him in every step of my life. My journey started during my plus II days, 15 to 16 years back. The work is my passion and following in the footsteps of my father I turned my passion into my profession.”

I discussed with my father about starting my own business of ready-to-eat food and he gave me a go ahead and that is how I started ‘Frozit.’ It was a new concept and hard to make people aware of frozen food. When people of Odisha were not aware of what Pasta is, we started making frozen Pasta. After initial hiccups, I am happy that people accepted it and we have been successful so far.

Asked about training and courses she has attended in food processing, Rashmi replied that she learnt the tricks of the trade from her father on field and that was  the most important part of her life besides some professional training as well.

Rashmi takes pride in being an Odia and through her venture she has tried to make Odia food popular and ensured that quintessential Odia food is available in packets as frozen food as well. Through these products she has also helped many women self help groups in the State by getting typical Odia food packaged from them.

“I always wanted to do something new in Odia cuisine and that inspired me to take up Odia food in our menu. We first tried with ‘Pakhala,’ ‘Poda Pitha,’ ‘Enduri Pitha,’ by getting those from women SHGs in Odisha,” informed Rashmi.

Rashmi is also involved in research and development of ‘Ruchi Spices’. She along with a dedicated team are involved in R&D work of the company. What next? Pat comes the reply, “a new food brand in the State.”
