Five rebels surrender before Jajpur SP

Bhubaneswar: Five Maoists including a minor boy and a woman surrendered before Jajpur Superintendent of Police in Jajpur on Saturday. The ultras surrendered as they wanted to return to the mainstream of life and society.

The ultras identified as Sanatan, Preeti, Junguri, Jamuda Hembram alias Suresh and minor boy Sanjay Palia alias Sali Palia were involved in several crimes including Kalinganagar police station burning case and magazine loot case in Chingudipala, police officials informed.

“I wished to study and I will,” surrendered minor rebel Sali Palia said.

Maoist leader Sushil used to threaten them and train the rebels by force. Sushil provided them with SLR, INSAS, 8mm and 303 rifles.

“We were trained for a month by Maoist leader Sushil,” surrendered Maoist Jamuda Hembram said.

However, the rebels surrendered today as they wanted to return to the mainstream of life and society.

“They laid down their arms after they became aware of the government’s various policies. They were also convinced that the government would take a soft approach towards them instead of a strong one,” said D.S. Kutte SP Jajpur.
