Bhubaneswar: A double murder has rocked Bolangir district where a man and his son have been hacked to death, police said on Wednesday. The deceased duo has been identified as Pramod Meher and his 14-year-old son Subeidya of Kerimeli village.

According to deceased’s family members, Meher had feud over land with a family of  the same village. The issue later moved the court where the judge, 15 days ago, had given the verdict in favour of Pramod.

But Pramod got into a tiff with the Nayak family members while he was out on his own land along with his son this morning. Suddenly, the situation worsened as the rivals attacked the father-son duo with sharp weapons and slashed them to death.

“Despite demarcation they used to reap crops from our land by force. And today they hacked my brother and nephew due to land dispute,” deceased Pramod’s brother Prabin Meher said.

Following the incident, police have detained two persons on the basis of the complaint lodged by Meher’s family members and have started investigating the case.

“A case has been registered and investigation is on. The culprits have not been nabbed yet. We are trying to explore the other aspects of the individual. We are trying our best to apprehend the culprits behind the incident,” Bolangir SDPO Balabhadra Deep said.
