The bottles were destroyed immediately as per the order of the expert committee, they said adding the date of expiry of the saline was last month. However, a doctor in the hospital said the saline bottles were not meant for patients but kept for destruction. Chief district medical officer (CDMO), Ganjam, SK Patnaik had asked two doctors including the district malaria officer (DMO) to inquire into alleged stock of several expired saline bottles in the hospital for administering to the patients.

In a meeting of Rogi Kalyan Samiti of the hospital, participants had also expressed concern over the matter and requested the CDMO to conduct through inquiry into the issue. The CDMO, however, refuted the allegation that expired saline had been administrated to the patients. "Although they found some saline bottles which had developed fungus with expiry date already gone, but the liquid was not given to any patient", he said.
