Koraput: In a shocking incident, a former village head in Koraput district was brutally murdered by some unidentified miscreants on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Gobardhana Bhumia, former sarapanch of Tentuligumar under Baipariguda block of the district.

Sources said some unidentified miscreants have dumped the body of Bhumia after slashing his throat.
A bike was also found near his body.

Though, the exact reason behind the death is yet to be known, it is suspected that the political rivalry could be the one.

Police suspects that it could be the handiwork of the Maoists who had recently threatened to eliminate all police informers.

“First, we got to know that a person was found dead near Sandajodi jungle on Malkangiri-Baipariguda road. Initially, we thought that it was an accident but after verification it is now clear that someone had killed him as there is injury in his neck,” said IIC of Baipariguda police station AK Mohapatra.

“A case has been registered at Baipariguda police station and we are investigating the case to ascertain the exact reason of the murder though, it is suspected that it could be a result of previous enmity,” Mohapatra added.

“He has been killed by some persons from the opposition political party as they had earlier attacked my husband several times but he had managed to escape all time,” said Brundabati Bhumia, wife of Gobardhana Bhumia, denying the role of Maoists.
