Keonjhar: In the wake of the death of an Essar Steel worker which led to labour unrest in the plant site here on Friday, state labour minister Pushpendra Singh Deo on Saturday announced a compensation of Rs. 4 lakh for the next of kin of the deceased and ordered departmental inquiry into the whole incident.

Sources said that the lone labourer Ashadhu Majhi succumbed to diarrhea yesterday, which led to labour unrest in the plant site.

As Majhi fell ill with diarrhea and vomiting; he was asked for a gate pass by the security people of the company, while workers of the company tried to take him to the hospital. After Majhi’s death, the irate workers of the company got more agitated and attacked on the security people and resorted to damages in the plant site.

Later, police rushed to the spot, saved four security people from the workers’ attack and sent them to the hospital.

Now the situation in the plant site is under control. A case has already been filed in this connection, yet no arrest has been made.

In another incident, labour ministry issued similar orders for departmental inquiry into the labour unrest at Utkal Alumina in Rayagada.
