Bhubaneswar: Acting on Odisha High Court’s directive, the district administration on Saturday relocated the 522 sliver bricks from Emar mutt to the police armory amid tight security.

The HC issued directive after the dispute over their rights on the silver brick emerged. The HC then directed the Dist administration to shift the Sliver slabs to district armory.

The matter came to light after two persons were arrested from Dhenkanal, while disposing off two stolen silver bricks. After interrogation, the leads led police to the mutt where these silver bricks were unearthed.

Subsequently, the Mahant and several other people allegedly involved in the stolen silver brick deals were arrested.

On April 22, former Chief Mahanta of Emar Mutt Rajgopal Ramanuja Das, and eight others, who were arrested in connection with alleged theft of silver bricks from the mutt complex were granted conditional bails by High Court. The bail applications of the chief Mahanta and his disciple were earlier rejected by the Puri additional district judge (ADJ) court on April 2.

Earlier on February 26, the police had conducted raid in the mutt premises after receiving a tip-off on the stolen sliver bricks and recovered 522 silver bricks, weighing over 18 tonnes stashed in four wooden boxes which were kept inside a closed room inside the Mutt.
