Angul: An elderly woman was injured after being accidentally hit by a bullet during a firing practice session by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel at the Saradhapur police training center (PTC) ground in Angul district on Wednesday.

As per reports, the injured identified as Badani Mishra (79) of Saradhapur village was seated in front of her house this morning when a bullet hit her chest.

The bullet first hit the wall of her house and then bounced towards her and hit her chest causing injury, informed sources.

Badani was immediately rushed to the Angul district headquarters hospital where she was operated. "The bullet has been recovered and her condition is stable now," informed family sources.

The mishap took place during a practice session by the CISF personnel at the ground. Though residential areas are located one km away from the firing practice ground, probe is on to find out under what circumstance the bullet hit the elderly woman, said police.

“A case will be lodged and probe will be carried out to find out the distance between the spot where she was seated and the practice ground and what led to the mishap. The injured woman is currently out of danger,” stated Harihar Pani, Angul Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO).

The victim's son Bijaya Kumar Mishra informed that bullets landing in the village is a regular affair. "This is not the first time. Earlier too, bullets have been found in the village,” said Mishra.
