Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the Diwali, the East Coast Railway has formed a special squad to keep a strict watch that fire-crackers were not carried in passenger, mail and express trains.
 
If any passenger was seen carrying inflammable items, co-passengers were requested to inform railway staff or the Railway Protection Force or Government Railway Police, a railway release said.
 
Passengers could SMS or call helpline number 8455885777 to report carrying of fire-crackers in trains.
 
Carrying of inflammable objects like fire-crackers, gas cylinders, acid, petrol, kerosene and other things were a punishable offence under the Railway Act 1989, it said.
 
The offence carried a sentence of up to three years, it added.
