Bhubaneswar: Chief Justice of Odisha C Nagappan on Thursday administered oath to the newly appointed Governor SC Jamir at Raj Bhawan here. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and other dignitaries including chief secretary BK Patnaik were present in the swearing-in ceremony. 

“It is indeed a great pleasure to be in Odisha as a Governor. At the last leg of my career I have come here with a mission to be part and parcel of Odisha and the best of my ability to serve the people, serve the nation. And it shall be my endeavour to see, I shall be available at all times for all the people”, said Jamir.

 

The newly appointed Governor who arrived in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday night was welcomed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik along with senior leaders of state cabinet, Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh and Mayor of Bhubaneswar at the Biju Patnaik Airport.
 
The 82-year old leader has been the Chief Minister of Nagaland for five times. He had earlier served as governor of Maharashtra and Goa. Jamir was first nominated a member of the Lok Sabha in 1961 and appointed parliamentary secretary to then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, who was also in-charge of external affairs.
 
He was later elevated as deputy minister of railways; he also served in other ministries at the centre - labour and rehabilitation, community development and cooperation, and food and agriculture.
