Bhubaneswar: Opposition Congress created heavy noise in the Assembly over the case of dowry torture against Housing and Urban Development minister Raghunath Mohanty forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House till 11.30 am on Friday.
 
Soon after Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat started the question hour, Congress members protested the dowry torture case against Raghunath Mohanty who stepped down as minister of Housing and Urban Development on Friday morning. The Opposition members demanded CM’s statement in this regard. Amid pandemonium, the Speaker managed to run question hour for only 8 minutes.
 
Mohanty, on Friday, tendered his resignation paper to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at his residence saying that he quit on moral ground. After stepping down, he told media that the whole episode is baseless, false and fabricated. It was politically motivated, he added.
 
 
Mohanty’s daughter-in-law Barsha Soni Choudhury, on Thursday, lodged a complaint against him, his wife and son at Balasore Town Police station alleging that the minister and his family demanded a car and Rs 25 lakh as dowry.
