Bhubaneswar: Thirteen speech and hearing impaired children from Mahaveer School for Deaf and Dumb and Helen Keller Binapani School for Deaf, Blind & Mute of Bhadrak district were awarded for their extraordinary talent in various fields.

The selected students were presented trophies and certificates for their talents on the occasion of International Deaf Day-2012 organised here yesterday.

The talent promotion activity for these children is a part of project 'Sakshyam' started by Dhamra Port Company Limited (DPCL) as a CSR initiative to spot extraordinary talent and impart skill improvement training to people with differential ability, company sources said today.

The programme was inaugurated by Governor Muralidhar Chandrakant Bhandare.

Among 13 students, Bijay Kumar Patra and Bhaktahari Biswal of Class VIII and Bishnumohan Tripathy of Class VII of Mahaveer School and Nirupama Sahu of Class IX & Saraswati Sahu, Mamata Sethi and Suchismita Tiadi of Class X of Helen Keller Binapani School bagged trophies and certificates in art competition while Babula Senapati and Laxman Mandal of Class VIII of Mahaveer School and Mallika Rout & Ushamani Sahu of Class X of Helen Keller Binapani School won trophies and certificates in handwriting competition.

Similarly, Sebati Jena, a student of Class VIII and Gitanjali Biswal, a student of Class X of Mahaveer and Helen Keller Binapani School respectively bagged trophies and certificates in Jhoti competition.
