Bhubaneswar: The recent outbreak of dengue in state claimed five lives so far, with the death of one Biswajit Mohanty on Sunday who was undergoing treatment in SCB medical college and hospital in Cuttack.

According to sources, the victim, belonging to Balichandrapur was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of medicine ward on last Wednesday.

Earlier on Thursday health minister Dr Damodar Rout said 442 blood samples were tested positive for dengue this year which were collected across the state.

According to the minister while Ganjam district topped the list with 202 cases, Balasore,  Angul, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Khurda districts have 70, 57, 17, 13 and 10 cases respectively.

The minister however said the state government is fully prepared to tackle the disease.
