Death penalty for accused in minor girl rape & murder case

Sambalpur: The Sambalpur district judge on Monday awarded death penalty to an accused convicted of raping and murdering a minor girl.

According to sources, the accused, Pradeep Dalai had raped and murdered a 7-yr-old girl in Sambalpur town on September 3. Pradeep on the fateful evening had taken the child, Urmila Nag, a Class II student of Jharuapara UP school, for a chowmein treat.

The victim remained untraced till next morning and police recovered her body from a park. The police arrested the accused and remanded him in judicial custody for kidnapping, raping and killing the minor.
